This week we had our first prenatal appointment. While there we asked a lot of questions, learned a lot of helpful tips, and had what felt like a million tests run. Obviously Justin has never been to an OB-GYN office so the equipment was quite foreign to him. He had a cute look of concern on his face as the doctor performed the routine examination. I think he was happier when it ended than I was!
The most memorable moment was the seeing our little Smutz for the first time! It was amazing to watch the little heart beat on the ultrasound. It looked like a small number of flickering Christmas lights clustered together. It is too early to actually hear the heart beat, but it was a lot of fun to watch. At this appointment baby Smutz was about a 1/2 inch big, with arm and leg buds.
I highlighted a few of the identifiable objects that were pointed out to us in the picture above. Circled in yellow is the yolk sac, from which the baby receives nutrients until the placenta is fully formed. In blue is baby Smutz! To Justin's disappointment there was no high definition pictures, but from what I can see it has my eyes and Justin's smile!

Wow! Thanks for sharing your miracle with us! I can certainly make out the eyes and smile pretty well.. it looks like baby Smutz might also have Sara's "guns" and Justins great head of hair... way to work together guys:)
