Heartbeat and Cupcakes

Last Monday Justin was able to leave school for a few hours and come to my appointment. It went really well - my doctor is awesome! She is SO smart and makes such an effort to keep up on research. In addition to an MD, she has a PhD in microbiology so Justin and I enjoyed talking with her. We have been receiving a lot of emails about cord blood so Justin asked her what she thought about it. Go figure her husband (who just happens to have a PhD in Pathology) owned the first lab that banked cord blood in Colorado. He has since sold his business, but she let us know that there was a 1 in 20,000 chance that anyone in our immediate family would be able to put the cord blood to use. However, if we bank nationally (meaning we essentially donate our cord blood to the national registry), there is a much greater chance that someone could use it. It was so great to talk to such an informed, caring doctor and she gave us lots to think about!

After answering our questions she put some jelly on my lower abdomen and brought out the fetal heart monitor. It was incredible to hear Baby J's heartbeat. She found it right away, it was 164 bpm. She also let us know that there is no significant correlation between heart rate and gender......we will just have to wait until our ultrasound!

We were able to make our Ultrasound appointment that will hopefully give us insight into the gender of Baby J for Friday October 22. This also happens to be the day of our regional cross country meet. It will be a busy but exciting day for us so stay tuned:)

Many of you know I enjoy eating cupcakes. Apparently I have been talking about them a lot lately because one of my cross country parents has brought me cupcakes from two different bakeries (white with white icing and white with Oreo icing). They were delicious! Of course I brought them home to share with Justin, which might surprise some of you who have attempted to share a dessert with me. Then my co-workers wife brought me four more cupcakes from a bakery that she loves (french toast, orange, red velvet, and chocolate cake with Oreo icing). I don't particularly like chocolate, but Justin sure does so he had the Oreo. I really enjoyed the the red velvet and orange.
As I previously mentioned my sister Teri is engaged and is thinking of having cupcakes at her wedding. I have taken it upon my self to taste many of the flavors I think she will like from a local bakery. After visiting a possible wedding venue with my parents on Saturday morning we headed to Cakes Amore bakery to pick up some flavors. We tried 7 of their flavors, my personal favorites being the key lime and red velvet. Check out their huge variety if you have some time http://www.cakes-amore.com/. All in all we had a great week full of baby excitement and cupcakes:)
